Educational structure app
The Educational Structure is the data structure which contains the didactical structure of a school. It links together courses, curriculums and subjects through the various school periods.
There are two regional educational structures present in Summar.io, one for secondary education in the Netherlands (NL) and one for secondary education in the United Kingdom (UK). These can be used when creating an offering and will set a number of standard settings for both offering levels and courses.
Below an example of an educational structure is shown. The bottom of each branch has a circle with a plus sign which can be used to add new directions, levels or curriculums.
Adding an offering
By clicking on the circle with the plus sign at the bottom of the leftmost structure in the screen, a direction can be added to the educational structure.
When you select a school type from the dropdown list, a list of courses predefined for the selected school type is shown.
You can alter the list of courses by removing any course clicking the cross behind it. The list of courses is automatically added to the grade level so that this does not have to be done over and over again.
The offering is added to the structure using the 'Create' button. With the pencil the information of an offering can be edited and by means of the cross an offering can be removed.
Adding an offering level to an offering
By clicking on the black dot behind the offering, the structure of the offering level expands. At the bottom of the structure is the circle with the plus sign which can be used to add an offering level. When no levels have yet been defined, the 'Add offering level to offering' dialog is opened by default.
In this dialog, the selected offering is shown with a dropdown list of all grade levels known for the chosen offering. It is mandatory to select one of the grade levels from this list. Next, a name for the chosen offering level must be entered. With the button 'Create', the new grade level is added to the structure. With the pencil the information of a grade level can be edited and by means of the cross a grade level can be removed.
If the offering was not chosen from an educational structure but was self-defined instead, the dropdown list with grade levels is not shown and only the name is mandatory.
Adding a course to an offering level
By clicking on the black dot behind the offering level, the structure expands, showing it's courses. These courses are defined when creating the offering if an existing offering was chosen.
When an offering is defined, the black dot will contain a plus sign, by clicking on it the following dialog is opened.
In this dialog a curriculum is linked to a course. The name and abbreviation of the course are mandatory. When everything has been entered, the course can be added to the structure using the 'Create' button. With the pencil the information of a course can be edited and by means of the cross a course can be removed.
