The Insight App
The Insight app is an important diagnostic instrument. It enables teachers to gain insights in the activities that were performed by students, what learning-material was used during these activities and which results were achieved. Combined with the Progress app it is an important basis for the learning analytics performed by teachers.
To select a class or group
In order to be able to use this app, the first step is to select a target class or group that is to be analyzed. All subjects, classes and groups are a representation of the groups and work that is handled in the Scoring app. Therefore if you want to analyze more subjects, classes or groups, one should add them first in the Scoring app.
Insight in a class or group
After a class or group is selected, an overview is displayed. This overview displays the students and their recent activities for the related subject. You can now retrieve the insights in the performance of a particular student by clicking on the name of that student. Next the recent activities and related learning-material is displayed.
Activities scope
It is possible to configure the length of the period that is to be analyzed. This can be done by altering the selected Actvities Scope. The Activities Scope can be altered by either clicking on the gearwheel in the upper right corner or by clicking the change scope button. In both cases a dialog is displayed the allows the user to alter the Activities Scope.
Insight in a learning-object
The learning-objects that students have been working on are shown in the list of recent activities as part of the overview of the target class or group. Upon clicking any of these units-of-learning, a deeper level of detail is displayed. An examples of displayed below.
The overview of the learning-object shows all activities and assignments of that learning-object. By clicking on "done", "busy", "not started" of "activity from ..." the students are highlighted who are in the selected phase. The status "activity from ..." is directly related to the applicable activity scope. The green spheres at the end of a line with a student indicate whether that student is in the selected phase for this learning-object.
It is always possible to drill-down into the performance of a specific student by by clicking on the name of the student.
The timeline of a student
By clicking on the name of a student, the timeline of the student is displayed. This timeline lists all the activities that are performed by a student in the selected activity scope.
The timeline lists all the learning-objects that have been opened or handed-in by the student. Per learning-object an icon is displayed that indicates the status of the work on the learning-object. The following icons are used sin Summar.io:
![]() |
The student has completed an assignment with a perfect score. All potential points have been successfully achieved. |
![]() |
The student has handed-in an assignment. The assignment has been scored is adequate (either automatically or manually by a teacher). The circular dial is a visual indication of the number of points that were scored by the student. In this example the score is approximately 80%. |
